The Internet is everywhere nowadays. Mobile providers together with smartphone producers have put the World Wide Web through their mobile networks into the hands and pockets of everyone. Many hotels, shops and restaurants provide free WiFi for their clients. So, what should be the next step?
As to me, the next big step should be the worldwide step-by-step establishment of City-wide free wireless networks. Each city should provide all its citizens and guests with speed- and size-limited free wireless network. This would make all kinds of mobile devices, such as iPods, iPads and all other tablets without 3G/4G connectivity, really useful. You would be able to go everywhere within any city and still be connected.
Just imagine you have to travel abroad. You won’t need to buy yet another SIM-card for a local mobile provider, just to be able to check your e-mail or use a messenger. I don’t think that such city-wide WiFi network would be a big expense for the local city council, but it will surely provide great service for its citizens, tourists, local business and visiting investors.
Actually, such cities already exist and Internet connectivity works quite good there. Then, why not extend the service worldwide?
What do you think?
